After writing the UTME, the next step is to check your score and, later, print your original JAMB result slip. Universities often ask for the slip during Post-UTME screening and admission clearance. This guide covers both.
Method 1: Check your JAMB result by SMS
This is the quickest method once JAMB releases results.
- Use the same phone number you used to register for the UTME.
- Type UTMERESULT (no spaces) and send it to 55019 or 66019.
- You will receive an SMS with your score in each subject and your total, or a message saying your result is not yet available or is withheld.
A small network charge applies. If you have changed your SIM or lost the number, use the online method below.
Method 2: Check your result on the JAMB e-Facility portal
- Visit the JAMB e-Facility portal and log in with your email and password. If you don’t have an account, create one with the same email and phone number used for registration.
- Select “Check UTME Results” from the services.
- Enter your registration number or the email used during registration.
- Your result will be displayed on screen.
How to print your original JAMB result slip
The original result slip carries your photograph and is the version institutions accept. It is usually made available some weeks after results are released.
- Log in to your JAMB e-Facility account.
- Choose “Print Original Result Slip”.
- Pay the small service fee using the payment options displayed.
- After payment, enter your registration number to load the slip.
- Print it in colour and save a PDF copy. Make several photocopies for screening and clearance.
If your result is withheld
JAMB sometimes withholds results for further verification, for example where there are suspected irregularities or biometric issues. If your result is withheld:
- Don’t pay anyone who promises to “release” it for money.
- Monitor official JAMB announcements and your registered email.
- Visit the nearest JAMB state office with your registration slip if you are invited.
What score do you need?
For 2026/2027 admission, the minimum UTME score for universities is 150 and for polytechnics 100. Most universities set higher marks for competitive courses. See our cut-off marks section for school-by-school figures.
Understanding your result slip
| Item on the slip | What it means |
|---|---|
| Registration number | Your unique UTME number. You’ll use it for screening, CAPS and admission. |
| Subject scores | Your score in each of the four subjects, each out of 100. |
| Aggregate / total | The sum of the four subject scores, out of 400. |
| Institution and course choices | The schools and course you chose during registration. |
| Photograph | Confirms the slip belongs to you. Institutions check this at screening. |
What your score means for 2026/2027
- 150 and above: meets JAMB’s university minimum.
- 100–149: meets the polytechnic and monotechnic minimum.
- Below 100: consider NCE (no UTME needed with four credits) or prepare for the next UTME.
See all your options in our 2026 cut-off guide.
Next steps after checking
- Compare your score with your chosen school’s screening mark.
- If needed, change your course or institution.
- Upload your O’Level result to your JAMB profile. See how to upload it.
- Register for your school’s Post-UTME when it opens, and start a study plan.
Keep your records safe
Save digital copies of your registration slip, result slip and admission letter in your email and phone. You’ll need them for clearance, scholarships, NELFUND and even future transcript requests.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my SMS keep saying “result not available”?
Results are released in batches. Wait a few days and try again, and make sure you are using the registered phone number.
Is the result slip the same as the admission letter?
No. The result slip shows your UTME score. The JAMB admission letter is printed after you accept an admission offer on CAPS.
Can I print the original slip at a cyber café?
Yes, but log in yourself and change your password afterwards if you shared it.
