For the 2026/2027 admission session, JAMB set 100 as the minimum UTME score for admission into polytechnics and monotechnics, unchanged from the previous year. Polytechnics have until 31 December 2026 to complete their admissions.
2026/2027 minimum scores at a glance
| Institution type | Minimum UTME score |
|---|---|
| Universities | 150 |
| Colleges of Nursing Sciences | 150 |
| Polytechnics and monotechnics | 100 |
| NCE (colleges of education) | UTME not required with four credit passes |
Candidates for ND in non-technology agricultural courses are also exempt from the UTME from 2026/2027.
Do polytechnics set higher cut-offs?
Yes. 100 is the floor. Popular polytechnics and courses often set higher marks, for example for Computer Science, Accountancy, Mass Communication and Engineering courses. Each polytechnic publishes its own screening requirements.
How polytechnic admission works
- Choose the polytechnic in your UTME, or change your institution on the JAMB portal. See our change of institution guide.
- Apply for the polytechnic’s screening (often called Post-UTME or ND screening).
- Meet the O’Level requirements for your course: usually five credits including English and Mathematics.
- Accept your admission on JAMB CAPS.
From ND to a degree
After the ND, many students go on to an HND or enter a university through Direct Entry at 200 level. See Direct Entry explained. NUC has directed universities to stop HND-to-BSc conversion and top-up programmes, so plan your route carefully.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my UTME score for both university and polytechnic?
Only one institution can admit you through CAPS at a time. If you change to a polytechnic, you are choosing that route for this session.
Is 120 a good score for polytechnic?
It meets the minimum, but competitive courses at popular polytechnics may need more. Apply to less competitive courses or polytechnics too.
