Every year, some candidates travel long distances for screening only to be turned back because a document is missing. Use this checklist to prepare. Always confirm the exact list in your university’s screening notice, because requirements differ.
Documents for Post-UTME screening
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| Post-UTME registration or screening slip | Printed from the university portal after payment. Shows your venue, date and time. |
| JAMB UTME result slip | Many schools ask for the original result slip with your photograph. |
| Passport photographs | Recent, with a white or red background as specified. Take at least four. |
| Payment receipt | Keep the Remita or payment confirmation. |
| Means of identification | Some schools accept the screening slip alone; others ask for NIN slip or school ID. |
| Writing materials | For paper-based tests: HB pencils, eraser, biro. Calculators are only allowed if stated. |
Documents for admission clearance (after you are admitted)
Once you receive an admission offer, the university will ask for more documents before registration. Start gathering them now:
- JAMB admission letter, printed from the JAMB portal after accepting on CAPS.
- University admission letter, printed from the school portal.
- O’Level result(s): original WAEC/NECO certificate or printed result, and scratch cards for verification if required.
- Birth certificate or age declaration.
- Certificate of state of origin / Local Government identification letter.
- Acceptance fee receipt.
- Medical report from the university health centre or an approved hospital.
- Letter of attestation or guarantor form, where required.
- Primary and secondary school testimonials, especially for some state universities.
Practical tips
- Scan all your documents and keep copies on your phone and email.
- Make several photocopies of each document.
- Keep the documents in a waterproof file.
- Make sure your name is spelt the same way on every document. Fix mismatches early with an affidavit.

Name differences across documents
A common problem at clearance is a name spelt differently on the birth certificate, O’Level result and JAMB record. If yours differ:
- Decide which spelling is correct and consistent with your NIN.
- Swear an affidavit explaining the difference.
- If the error is on your JAMB record, request a data correction from JAMB.
- Carry the affidavit and supporting documents to clearance.
Direct Entry candidates
Bring your A’Level, ND or NCE result or certificate as well. See Direct Entry explained.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a printout of my WAEC result instead of the certificate?
Most schools accept the printed result at screening and ask for the certificate later, once WAEC releases it. Confirm with your school.
What if I am still awaiting my O’Level result?
Many universities allow “awaiting result” candidates to write the Post-UTME, but you must provide the result before admission is finalised.
