The university was established in 2011 as Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), one of the new federal universities created that year. It was later renamed in honour of Nigeria's former Vice-President, Alex Ekwueme.

FUNAI Admission 2026/2027
For 2026/2027, JAMB set 150 as the minimum UTME score for all universities, and public universities had until 31 October 2026 to conclude admissions. FUNAI may set a higher screening mark for its programmes, especially competitive courses. We will add FUNAI’s screening dates and cut-off marks here as soon as they are announced.

- Score: at least JAMB’s 150 minimum and FUNAI’s own screening mark for your course.
- Screening: participation in FUNAI’s Post-UTME or document screening.

- Click Admission Status. If FUNAI has offered you admission, accept it within four weeks.
