JAMB has reopened its NIN alignment service, which lets candidates fix differences between their JAMB records and their National Identification Number (NIN) details at NIMC. The board announced it on its verified X account on Friday, 16 October 2026, and called it a one-time opportunity.
Who needs it
Candidates whose details differ between JAMB and NIMC, in any of these:
- name (spelling or order);
- date of birth;
- gender;
- state or local government of origin.
Mismatches can hold up admission processing, result verification and later documents such as the admission letter. If your CAPS or result slip shows details that don’t match your NIN, this is for you.
How to do it
- Fix the error at NIMC first. Use the NIMC self-service modification portal or visit an NIMC enrolment centre.
- Wait until the change shows on your NIN record. Don’t apply to JAMB before then.
- Gather documents that match your updated details, such as a birth certificate, affidavit, local government certificate or NIN slip.
- Apply for alignment through JAMB’s e-Facility portal. Select every correction you need in one submission and check it carefully before submitting.
- Watch your JAMB profile, phone and email for the outcome.
Important points
- Approval isn’t automatic. Every request is checked, and incomplete or inconsistent applications can be rejected.
- JAMB says it won’t allow the service to be used for fraudulent identity changes.
- Avoid agents who promise to “fix” your record. Use only JAMB’s official portals and verified social media accounts.
- JAMB has a “JAMB Explained” video guide on its X account showing the full process.
No closing date was given, so act quickly if you need it. After fixing your record, check CAPS to make sure your admission status is up to date.
