Course registration tells your university which courses you’ll take in a semester. If a course isn’t registered, its exam usually doesn’t count, even if you attend every class. Getting this right in your first semester sets you up for the rest of your programme.
Before you register
- Pay your school fees. Registration usually opens only after fees are confirmed.
- Get your department’s course list for your level and semester, including compulsory (core) courses and electives.
- Know the minimum and maximum credit units allowed per semester.
Step-by-step registration
- Log in to your student portal with your matriculation number or JAMB number.
- Open the Course Registration section and select the session and semester.
- Add all your core courses first.
- Add general studies (GST) courses required for your level.
- Add electives until you reach the required credit units.
- Check the total units, then submit.
- Print the course registration form and get it signed by your course adviser, HOD or as your faculty requires.
Common mistakes
- Registering the wrong level’s courses.
- Missing a core course, which can delay graduation.
- Going above the maximum units without approval.
- Not getting the form signed and submitted.
- Waiting until the last day, when portals are slow.
Add and drop
Many universities allow a short add/drop period at the start of the semester. Use it if you made a mistake.
