Withheld results

WAEC said results of 167,486 candidates were withheld over alleged malpractice, citing mobile phones in exam halls and organised cheating in some schools. Affected candidates can seek redress through WAEC’s malpractice complaints platform. A further 116,031 results were pending due to issues WAEC said it was resolving.

How to check your WAEC result in 2026

WAEC changed the way candidates access result checkers. According to the Council:

  • Result-checker PINs are generated online through WAEC’s digital certificate platform using your National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Smart Identity Cards with PINs have been discontinued.
  • Candidates get five free PIN attempts. Extra PINs can be bought at WAEC offices.
  • Digital certificates are available within 48 hours of release; hard copies are expected within 90 days.

What next?

  • Upload your result on the JAMB portal if you haven’t already, so universities can consider you for admission.
  • If you missed credits, consider the NECO SSCE External (4 to 21 November 2026) or the next WAEC GCE.
