President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna (popularly called Kaduna Polytechnic or KADPOLY) to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.
Daniel Amos, who represents the Jema’a/Sanga federal constituency in the House of Representatives, announced the assent on Friday, 16 October 2026. The bill was sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.
Aims of the upgrade
- Strengthen technical and vocational education.
- Deepen research capacity.
- Improve graduates’ job prospects in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.
- Support skills development.
Amos said the House would support a “smooth take-off” as the institution transitions.
What it means for current students
The announcement didn’t spell out transition details. In past upgrades of polytechnics and colleges into universities, the usual pattern has been:
- existing ND and HND students finish their programmes and receive their certificates as planned;
- degree programmes start only after the NUC approves and accredits them;
- admission into degree courses goes through JAMB once the new programmes are listed.
Current students should follow official announcements from the institution’s management before assuming any change to their programme.
For 2027 applicants
If you’re applying in 2027, check the JAMB brochure for whether degree courses are listed under the new name before choosing it. Until then, ND programmes continue to be admitted as a polytechnic. Browse other options on our Kaduna State schools page, or see our full list of universities.
