Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships: A Guide for Nigerian Applicants (October to January Cycle)

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) programmes are master’s degrees offered by groups of universities, usually in Europe. Students study in at least two countries and receive a joint or multiple degree. The best part: each programme offers full scholarships to top applicants, and Nigerians are eligible.

When to apply

Each programme sets its own deadline, but most applications fall between October and January for study starting the following September. That means now is the time to shortlist programmes for 2027.

What the scholarship can cover

  • Participation (tuition) costs.
  • Travel and visa costs.
  • A monthly living allowance for the duration of the programme.

The exact package depends on the programme.

Eligibility

  • A bachelor’s degree, or being in your final year before the programme starts.
  • Meeting the academic and language requirements of the specific programme.
  • Open to students worldwide.

How to find and apply

  1. Search the official Erasmus Mundus catalogue for programmes in your field.
  2. Read each programme’s admission and scholarship rules carefully.
  3. Apply directly to the programme consortium through its website. You can usually apply to up to three Erasmus Mundus programmes in one year.
  4. Prepare your transcript, CV, motivation letter, references and English test results (if required).

Tips for Nigerian applicants

  • Request your transcript early. Delays are common.
  • Tailor your motivation letter to each programme.
  • Show how the degree fits your career and how it can benefit Nigeria.
  • Check whether your degree was taught in English and whether the programme accepts an English proficiency letter.
